You guys should do Chile, with one of them Raoul Ruiz movies that are supposed to be great and You Think You’re the Prettiest but You are the Sluttiest, which is a good movie with a great title.

I’d love to do Chile and Ruiz seeing as how Mysteries of Lisbon was one of my favorites from 2011. But the question of the moment is, what did you think of Anatolia :) ?

Oh, and that Sandoval has been on my to-watch list for ages (based on the title alone).

I liked Anatolia quite a bit. You guys covered most everything I thought about it. I like your theory that the first third is Iranian like Kiarostami, and the third third is Romanian. Geographically, Turkey is right in-between those two countries, as it is in-between Eastern Europe and the Islamic Middle East. So that’d make the second third, the ancient, mystical heart of the film, Turkey.

I really loved the cuts on sound in the final third of the film. When all the characters are exhausted, Ceylan begins to fiddle with time in a fluid, dreamlike way.

I love that interpretation of the second act / middle :) . I have to confess that as much as I love the last third of the film, I have a few issues with the ending. Not stylistically at all, just thematically. Am hoping you’ll post a proper review on your blog sometime :) .

Good episode. I agree with Jhon about how frustrating and annoying those moments where characters almost meet in The Edge of Heaven. I honestly didn’t care for the film. It had some interesting ideas, but I just found a lot of it trite and forced. Not watched Babel, but if it’s a worse version of this, I don’t plan to anytime soon.

Seema, I’m totally watching White Nights. I may try to read Dostoyevsky’s short story first. Actually, looking at it, this short story has been adapted many times into a film, including…this just blew my mind…Two Lovers!

Also, Jhon needs to watch more good movies…although, I will admit Sunny sounds like a lot of fun.
